Amaarae is a Ghanaian singer well known for her work on gender and race representation in music who released her debut EP, Passionfruit Summers, in 2017, following a few non-album singles and collaborations with local artists.

Amaarae Family
She was raised between Accra, Ghana, and Atlanta, Georgia, United States, as the daughter of Ama Bawuah and Kwadwo Boateng Genfi. She is the middle child of two. When Amaarae was 13 years old, she wrote her first song. She enjoyed watching music videos as a teenager, and one of her most vivid memories is of watching the Kelis song “Young, Fresh n’ New” music video.
