Art Rascon is a highly respected former American news anchor, known for his outstanding work with Disney-owned KTRK in Houston, Texas. Prior to his tenure at KTRK, Rascon worked as a CBS News correspondent, where he reported on international events for the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather and 48 Hours. His work for CBS Radio also earned him a national Edward R. Murrow award for his coverage of Hurricane Opal in 1995.
Throughout his career, Rascon has reported on major events around the world, covering everything from natural disasters and civil unrest to wars and conflicts in the Middle East, Central America, and beyond. He has traveled to over 75 countries on five continents and has reported from nearly every state in the United States. Rascon has been nominated for national and regional Emmy Awards and has won more than 20 Emmy awards throughout his career.
Rascon’s contributions to journalism have not gone unnoticed. In 1997, he was recognized as one of only five Latino correspondents reporting major events for the evening news on national television networks in the United States. Rascon joined ABC13 station in September 1998, he was served as an anchor of the 11 am 5 pm, and 6 pm newscasts. Besides, he has covered such major events as wars and conflicts in Iraq, the Caribbean, Central America, traveling with scores of juvenile immigrants on their deadly trek to the United States border and the Balkans, throughout the Middle East.
Art has widely reported on United States Presidential elections, terrorist attacks both at home and abroad, the Virginia Tech campus shooting, and a host of hurricanes that have hit the Eastern seaboard and the Gulf coast, including Ike and Katrina.
He has covered other natural disasters throughout the world, including the tsunami in Indonesia, and he was also among the first journalists to report out of Haiti after the earthquake.
