Meet Avery Travis, the investigative reporter who’s passionate about justice and uncovering the truth at KXAN in Austin. This proud Longhorn is so thrilled to be back in Austin that she can hardly contain herself! She’s had a long journey to get here, having interned with the Investigative Team at KXAN while studying at the University of Texas.
Avery worked as a multimedia journalist at KAMC in Lubbock, TX, where she worked her way up to morning and midday anchor on Good Morning Lubbock. Her time in West Texas was anything but boring, as she covered everything from deadly gas explosions to city government scandals.
Now that she’s back in Austin, Avery is working with KXAN’s Investigators to fight for positive change in the state. When she’s not busy uncovering the next big story, you can find her exploring Austin’s music scene or sipping coffee on a patio with her rescue dog, Tuxedo.

She then served as a multimedia journalist at KAMC in Lubbock, TX, prior to serving her way up to morning and midday anchor on Good Morning Lubbock. During her time in West Texas, Avery covered everything from the shooting on the Texas Tech University campus where an officer was killed to a deadly gas explosion in a residential neighborhood and the resulting $20 million lawsuits.
She also became the “self-appointed” city government reporter, following citizen outrage over land annexation and high utility bills. Avery honored to serve with KXAN’s Investigators once more, fighting for positive change in our state.
She solo anchor the morning weekday newscasts from 5-7 a.m. Travis produced and solo an anchor midday newscast. She also produces breaking news from the desk. Avery has published breaking news articles, solo handles EverythingLubbock.com news site, and alert. Furthermore, she runs all social media accounts associated with KAMC News during morning hours.
Travis pitches, shoots, write and edits stories for the 5, 6, and 10 newscasts. She has also covered the night-side reporting shift, often at the scene of breaking news. Avery runs solo live shots and enterprise stories and features. Additionally, she produces and anchors weekend newscasts. She also produces, covers breaking news while on the desk in-show.
