Bill Handel is a Brazilian-born American radio host and attorney. He currently hosts two radio programs on KFI; a local morning drive time show and a legal advice show on weekends called Handel on the Law. Bill is also a renowned expert on the legal aspects of reproductive technology and also he serves as the director and founder of the Center for Surrogate Parenting.
On paper, Handel’s family story was interesting. He was born in Brazil on August 25, 1951, as William Wolf Handel, but grew up in the USA. His father Leo was from Yugoslavia and his mother Nechama was a Polish Jew who grew up in Brazil.
Handel is now producing the longest-running radio program on the shelf, 38 years!. His shows are played across America on American Talk channel 158 through XM Satellite Radio, and in 2008, Handel’s was discontinued by XM when it merged with Sirius Satelite radio.

Handel grew up in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles County in California where he attended California State University, Northridge. In 1976, he received a bachelor’s degree in political science from the school.
He then started a construction company while going to Whittier Law School part-time. He graduated with his J.D. in 1979.
How does one slave away in law school, and just before you graduate, gain an addiction to cocaine, and then go through rehabilitation? That’s great! Drug addiction is something many people struggle with, so Handel was lucky to find success in overcoming it at St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica.
When Handel was working in the 1980s, he did legal work for matters pertaining to surrogate parenting and egg donation. Handel ran a TV show called Judge For Yourself in the early 1990s which had low ratings, and hence it was discontinued. but he continued to work tirelessly on behalf of viewers.
Handel joined 640 KFI Los Angeles in 1989 doing a weekend legal show called “Handel On The Law. Before January 2014, Bill Handel’s show aired from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m before it changed to the current time. I guess the show wasn’t majorly covering news content.
