Cassper Nyovest Beef

Nyovest and longtime rival AKA got into a fight in 2014. AKA, who was promoting his new single “Congratulate,” contradicted Nyovest’s claim that his song “Doc Shebeleza” was the most popular in South African hip-hop when he tweeted, “There’s a rapper running around saying he got the biggest song in the country… I challenge you to find his song in the iTunes Top 100.” Following that, Nyovest issued a tweet in response outlining the reasons why his song was more popular than AKA’s. As both rappers responded to each other multiple times, the argument got out of hand.

When a member of AKA’s entourage allegedly pulled a gun on Cassper and his team in August 2014, the two were scheduled to perform simultaneously on the SABC 1 music show Live Amp. Cassper’s claim that AKA had slapped him in 2015 sparked further controversy, prompting both rappers to release disparaging songs. When Nyovest was questioned in 2018 about the state of his feud with AKA, he stated that the two would never come to an agreement, which has thus far been the case.

Benny Mayengani, a musician from Xitsonga, was scheduled to perform a concert in 2018 called “#FillUpGiyaniStadium.” Nyovest then sent Mayengani a cease-and-desist letter accusing him of using his trademark because Mayengani used a similar affix (“Fill Up”/”#FillUp”). According to the investigation, Nyovest cannot take any action because it does not yet own the #FillUp trademark.
