Fraser joined the BBC in the year 2000. As an investigative reporter for BBC Radio 5 Live, Fraser started his professional broadcasting career. He had written on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq in 2002 and 2003. He had spent several months reporting on the transition in Baghdad. In 2004 he settled in Al Amarah with the Welsh Guards where British forces fought Muqtada al-Sadr’s insurgency.
He was posted to Nairobi in 2005, where he wrote on wars in Congo’s Democratic Republic and South Sudan later moved to Rome in the summer of 2006 where he had been the BBC’s correspondent for nearly two years. Fraser wrote on the war in Lebanon at the time and covered Meredith Kercher’s murder and Amanda Knox’s trial in Italy in 2007. He transferred to Cairo a year later. In 2007, during the Israeli invasion, Fraser was the only British correspondent inside Gaza, known as Operation Cast Lead. He spent a week in the Palestinian city of Rafah, destroying the tunnels by the Israelis.
Fraser covered the revolution for BBC TV in Egypt in 2010 and was appointed correspondent for the BBC in Paris that year. He wrote on the war in Libya in 2011, taking Benghazi first from the rebel and then from Tripoli as the war dragged along. In 2014, after the Russian invasion, he returned to London as Senior News Correspondent for the BBC News Channel, reporting from Crimea. He provided live coverage of the ongoing terrorist attacks in France and Belgium in 2015/16. He also presents PM programs for the BBC News Channel, BBC World, BBC Breakfast, and Radio 4.
