DeMarco Morgan Biography

DeMarco Morgan is an American broadcast journalist who currently works as an anchor at ABC News. Morgan graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1997, during which he interned at KOTV. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Jackson State University in Mississippi in 2001 and his Master’s Degree from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in 2002.

While studying at Columbia, Morgan helped found the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) student chapter and interned with CBS Evening News and 48 Hours. He was named a Fred Friendly Scholar, Dupont Scholar, and CBS Scholar.

Morgan has been actively involved in volunteer work with organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, the American Cancer Society, the NAACP, and Sweet Alice Harris. He has also served on the board of managers for the YMCA and is a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.

Morgan began his broadcasting career while studying for his Master’s degree and covered the September 11 attacks. He taught journalism at Jackson State University for two years and English at Milwaukee Area Technical College. He landed his first reporting job at CBS affiliate WJTV in Jackson, Mississippi, and went on to work at ABC affiliate WISN in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, NBC station WTVJ in Miami, and NBC’s flagship station in New York, WNBC. He joined Atlanta’s NBC affiliate WXIA in January 2012 and left to join CBS News as a correspondent in October 2015.

In April 2019, Morgan joined CBS station KCBS in Los Angeles as the weekday morning anchor for the 4:30-7:00 A.M. and 11:00 A.M. newscasts. He has also anchored select newscasts for CBS station WCBS in New York and the CBS Weekend News from Los Angeles during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As of December 2022, Morgan now works for ABC News and co-hosts GMA3. Morgan has received numerous awards and honors, including recognition as one of America’s Young Leaders of the Future by Ebony Magazine in 2006 and the NABJ National Community Service Award in the same year.
