Erika is a trailblazer in the field of meteorology, as the first Latina meteorologist in her market and a certified broadcast meteorologist (CBM). She is a valued member of the diverse ABC 4 News family and is thrilled to be part of the Good Morning Utah team alongside Sarah, Brian, Jerad, and the morning production crew.

Erika’s background is rooted in her family’s heritage, with her mother hailing from Santa Isabel, Puerto Rico, and her father from Mexico City, Mexico. She holds both an MBA in Energy and Sustainability and a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology, with her graduate studies focused on researching the true cost of natural disasters, weather migration, and cognitive environmental adaptation. During her studies, she also created two eco-tech products that she holds patents for and is currently developing.

Erika’s forecast experience spans the East and West Coasts, with stints at WTNH, NBC4 Philly, and WCBS New York on the East Coast and KPIX and KCOY/KEYT in California. She has covered extreme weather events for national broadcasts, including filling in on Good Morning America and covering natural disasters such as Hurricanes Irma, Harvey, and Maria and numerous tornado outbreaks across the country. Erika was Chief Meteorologist at WTNH in New Haven, CT, where she covered some of the toughest storms to hit the area, including Superstorm Sandy and the Blizzard of 2013.

In addition to her work in meteorology, Erika is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Meteorological Society, the National Weather Association, the American Geosciences Institute, the U.S. Green Building Council, the Water Environment Federation, the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association, and the National Association of Hispanic Journalists. She is also a Skywarn Spotter for The National Weather Service and completed an internship at NWS Oxnard.
