Before joining the WVNS TV team, Joe worked at WOWK where he honed his skills and developed a strong reputation for being one of the best meteorologists in the business.

Joe’s passion for weather forecasting began at an early age when he became fascinated with clouds, storms, and hurricanes. Over time, this fascination turned into a career that allowed him to use advanced technology to predict weather patterns with greater accuracy than ever before. Joe’s work has been instrumental in helping people prepare for severe weather events such as tornadoes, hurricanes, and blizzards.

Meet Joe Fitzwater, is a weather enthusiast from West Virginia who’s been fascinated with the Appalachian region’s weather since he was knee-high to a grasshopper. He’s so passionate about forecasting that he’s been known to argue with his own shadow over the chance of precipitation.

After graduating college, Joe landed a job as a weekend meteorologist at WOWK-TV 13, where he learned to put on a brave face during on-air bloopers and wardrobe malfunctions. He stuck with it until he moved to a new area in July 2022, hoping for a change of scenery and a chance to make new weather jokes.

Over the years, Joe’s been caught in the middle of some significant weather events, including flooding and a derecho that left him without power for days. But instead of taking cover, he’s embraced these challenges and channeled his energy into forecasting the heck out of them.

When he’s not busy analyzing clouds or updating his waterfall inventory website, you’ll probably find Joe jogging around the region, chasing his goal of running 1,000 miles annually. He’s so dedicated to staying active that he even runs in the rain, sleet, and snow – though he draws the line at thunderstorms. And if you’re ever looking for a mushroom hunting buddy, Joe’s your man – he loves nothing more than foraging for wild mushrooms and sharing his finds with friends.

Overall, Joe’s love for weather and nature is truly infectious, and we can only hope that his next forecast involves a rainbow, sunshine, and a cold drink waiting for him at the end of the day!
