Judy Woodruff has been in broadcasting for over 40 years, she’s covered elections and interviewed presidents since 1976. She currently works as the Managing Editor of the PBS NewsHour, where she anchors & produces programs.

Woodruff enrolled in the Academy of Richmond County, a high school in Augusta. She won the Young Miss Augusta beauty pageant in 1963. Starting in 1964, Woodruff attended Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina, initially pursuing a degree in mathematics. After two years at Meredith, she transferred to Duke University in 1966. She was active in Duke’s student government and was a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority.
In 1968 she graduated from Duke with a bachelor’s degree in political science. Judy served on the board of trustees of the university between 1985-97. In 1998, Woodruff received an honorary degree (D.H.L.) from Duke and was also awarded honorary degrees by Scranton University in 1991 and the University of Pennsylvania (LL.D.) in 2005.

Judy Woodruff Children
The couple is blessed with three kids: Jeffrey, Benjamin, and Lauren.
Around five hours after being on the air, Judy gave birth to Jeffrey. Jeffrey was born with a severe case of spina bifida and became impaired and brain-damaged following surgery in 1998, which prompted her to reduce workload at CNN. When she was four months old, Lauren was adopted from Korea. Judy Woodruff is not in any way related to fellow television news journalist Bob Woodruff.
Judy Woodruff Career
Woodruff is well known for The 38th Republican National Convention (2004), Inside Politics (1992), and Conversations with Judy Woodruff (2007). Judy started her journalism career as a reporter for the then-CBS affiliate WAGA-TV in Atlanta, Georgia in the year 1970. She got appointed by NBC News five years later. There she worked from 1977 to 1982 as Chief White House Correspondent.
PBS NewsHour
From 1982 to 1983, she also covered ‘The Today Show’ on the channel. She moved to PBS after this and started to work as the chief Washington reporter for The MacNeil / Lehrer NewsHour network. Woodruff also presented the channel’s “Frontline with Judy Woodruff” documentary film.
Whereas, She was appointed by CNN in 1993 when she presented the ‘ Inside Politics ‘ talk show for 12 years. She then came to PBS in 2006 to work on the Generation Next series. The next year, both the senior reporter and the replacement anchor for PBS The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer worked as the American journalist. On 6 August 2013, she and Gwen Ifill were appointed by the PBS network as co-anchors and also the co-managing reporters of the broadcast PBS NewsHour.
Therefore, the pair continued to share the duties of anchoring until the death of Ifill in November 2016, and after that Judy started to serve as the show’s sole host except for the evening broadcast. Judy has also hosted Bloomberg Television’s weekly program titled ‘ Conversations with Woodruff ‘ since 2006.
She has even served on the boards of trustees of a number of other organizations, including the Urban Institute, The Duke Endowment, the Newseum, Global Rights, the Freedom Forum, the National Museum of American History, the Carnegie Corporation of New York, America’s Promise, and the John S. Knight Journalism Fellowships at Stanford.
Additionally, she is a former member of the Knight Commission and a current member of the Council on Foreign Relations and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Judy Woodruff Book
Woodruff wrote the book This Is Judy Woodruff at the White House, in which she described her experiences as a journalist. It was published by Addison-Wesley in 1982. Over her career, she has advocated for women’s organizations and was part of a group of journalists that founded the International Women’s Media Foundation, an organization that internationally supports women in the media, in 1990. She has worked on its board of directors and is currently part of its advisory council.
