She’s covered everything from presidential visits to school shootings, and is always looking for the next big story. When she’s not busy chasing down leads, Kelly loves to travel, watch Netflix, and cuddle with her cat Custard (who may or may not be a better reporter than she is). Roberts arrived at the WMC team in July 2018 as a morning reporter and multimedia journalist. Additionally, she is a transplant to the Mid-South from the Midwest.
Prior to coming to Memphis, Kelly served as a reporter at WANE in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Previously, she spent time at WLFI in West Lafayette, Indiana, and WXIN Fox 59 in Indianapolis. In that time she reported on presidential visits, a tragic Indiana State Fair stage collapse, and two school shootings. Additionally, she reports on happy things too, like a girl’s worldwide impact when she brought “buddy benches” to her school and a small town’s successful fight against a large developer wanting to put a stone quarry in their neighborhood.
Kelly was born and brought up in Indiana, the Hoosier State. She graduated from the Ernie Pyle School of Journalism at Indiana University. And no, she does not know what a Hoosier is.
Her passion for local news has taken her to many places, but she is thankful for all the people she met and the stories they let her tell.
In her spare time, Kelly likes to travel. While at home, she likes reading, watching Netflix, and playing with her cat, Custard. Kelly is most thrilled to try all the food in Memphis. Email her your favorite must-try restaurant and any story ideas.
Kelly worked as the multimedia journalist for the market’s #1 11 p.m. broadcast Monday-Friday. Additionally, she attends daily meetings where she comes in with several story ideas that affect our viewers in Northeast Indiana. For the most part, Kelly turns in stories daily that she shoot and edit herself.
However, she is always grateful on rare occasions. She also gets to work with one of our talented photographers on a story. Additionally, she has daily deadlines reach 100% of the time. She is also responsible for writing web content and editing video for the website.
Her managers have also tapped into the skills she has received at other stations to have her fill in as a producer and anchor when needed.
