She is the daughter of Oliver H. Straus Jr., a recording engineer, and Agnes “Aggie” Mullaney. When she was young, her parents divorced. She is of Irish, Italian, and Polish ancestry on her mother’s side. Her great-great-grandparents on her father’s side include Isidor Straus, a U.S. Congressman and Macy’s co-owner, and Ida Straus; she was descended from German Jewish families who emigrated to the United States from the Kingdom of Bavaria and Rhineland-Palatinate.

In November 2019, it was made public that King Princess would serve as the opening act for the European leg of Harry Styles’ Love On Tour concert tour, which was planned for 2020. On November 23, 2019, King Princess appeared as a musical guest on Season 7 of Saturday Night Live. On February 14, 2020, a deluxe edition of Cheap Queen was made available. King Princess 1950
Her single “1950” was released by Zelig Recordings as the lead single from her debut EP, Make My Bed, on February 23, 2018. “1950” is a tribute to Patricia Highsmith’s 1952 novel The Price of Salt. The song was performed on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and Saturday Night Live on November 8 and November 23, 2019, alongside her other single “Hit the Back”. On February 23, 2018, both the music video and the single were released. Clare Gillen directed the video. It has over 19 million views on YouTube as of November 2021.
King Princess Hold On Baby
Princess released Hold On Baby, her second studio album. Zelig Records distributed it on July 29, 2022. Mark Ronson, Ethan Gruska, Aaron Dessner, Bryce Dessner, and Tobias Jesso Jr. produced the album. Four singles preceded Hold On Baby, including “Little Bother,” which featured guest vocals from Fousheé. Along with the album, Taylor Hawkins contributed drums to the fifth single, “Let Us Die.” Music critics generally gave the album high marks, praising its production and instrumentals.
In 2019, she released Cheap Queen, her debut album, and the singles “Only Time Makes It Human” and “Pain” followed. She released the singles “House Burn Down” and “Little Bother” in 2021. She released the singles “For My Friends,” “Too Bad,” and “Cursed” in 2022. On July 29, the album was released.
King Princess Career
Straus spent a lot of her childhood traveling with her father to work at Mission Sound, his recording studio. She gained knowledge of the music business and learned to play the piano, bass, guitar, drums, and music production techniques there. During those years, Straus was influenced by the rock music of Led Zeppelin, T. Rex, and Jack White. She was awarded a scholarship to attend Avenues in 2012: The World School, a Manhattan-based private school, following her submission of a CD containing songs she had written.
“1950” was Princess’s first single, and it was released in February 2018. The song is a celebration of queer love, the LGBT community, and Patricia Highsmith’s 1952 novel The Price of Salt. When British singer Harry Styles tweeted a line from the song, it was heard by a lot of people. In April, Straus released their second single, “Talia.” Make My Bed, her first extended play, was released on June 15, 2018. She was named Vivid Seats’ Breakout Pop Artist of the Year later in the year.
