Minchin has worked in Argentina for a year with the Latin American section of the BBC World Service, the Today show, five and other local radio stations. In 2006 she visited the country as part of BBC News’ coverage of the World Cup in a converted bus meeting with England fans. She started working for Radio 5 Live in 1998 and married David Minchin the same year. Louise introduced many of the station’s main programs, including Drive and Breakfast.
She was a regular BBC News Channel presenter between September 2003 and April 2012, initially working alongside Jon Sopel from 7 pm to 10 pm. Minchin then added the time from 2 pm to 5 pm, also with Sopel, sharing this change with Emily Maitlis. Also, she was one of the main BBC News relief presenters at One until April 2012.

The 2008 Sunday morning show Sunday Life was hosted by Minchin and Colin Jackson on BBC One.
From 2 November 2009 Minchin, together with Nick Knowles, presented four weeks of live broadcasts of Real Rescues. At the 2004 Athens Olympics Minchin also presented In the Know, a BBC sports magazine program alongside co-presenter John Inverdale on Saturday mornings on BBC One.
Minchin co-presented The One Show in April 2010 alongside Chris Hollins for a week when regular hosts were unavailable to Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley. She covered again when the show returned with Matt Baker in July 2010 for two weeks, and with Matt Allwright for one week.
The documentary series Crime and Punishment, which premiered on BBC One on 12 March 2012, was hosted by Minchin and Gethin Jones.
