Mark Batterson is an American pastor and author serving as the lead pastor of National Community Church in Washington, D.C.

NCC was identified by Outreach Magazine in 2008 as one of the Most Creative and Most Prominent Churches in America. Batterson is also the author of the books In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day and Wild Goose Chase and www.evotional.com daily blogs. Batterson’s bestseller The Circle Maker: Prayer Circles.

Batterson is a married man. He is married to Lora Batterson. The couple met at the Assemblies of God church where he used to worship. At that time,  Lora was a preacher’s daughter at the Assemblies of God church. They have three children and together live on Capitol Hill with their three children.

Batterson first graduated from Naperville (Illinois) Central High School. He later went to the University of Chicago through a scholarship to major in pre-law and playing basketball. He was called to a full-time ministry, leading to a transfer to Springfield, Missouri’s Central Bible College, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree. He also has two master’s degrees from Chicago, Illinois, at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He later studied and graduated from Regent University with a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degree.

In their twenties, about 70% of NCCers are single adults. NCC’s vision is to meet at metro stops in the DC area in movie theatres.

NCC has services near Union Station, all in the Washington, DC Metro Area, at Georgetown, Kingstowne, Columbia Heights, Ballston Common Mall, and Ebenezers Coffeehouse.
