On one sunny afternoon in Alabama, Marlei and her photographer found themselves caught in the crossfire while interviewing a mother on the 20th anniversary of her son’s cold case. They dodged gunfire at the very spot where her son was killed in a drive-by shooting exactly 20 years before to the day.
