Riedel moved his column to the New York Post. The move came after 5 years of being hired as a gossip columnist for the Daily News. In 1993, Daily News hired him.  Also, he launched his now-famous column where he reports the latest news and speculation about the Broadway theater scene.

In September 2015, the management at NY Post announced that it was going to reduce Michael’s column frequency down to one column a week from two over the same time frame. Michael’s response to the move was that he was elated about the changes. He added that the move would provide the Post with an opportunity to redesign its feature pages, in a move create room for ‘breaking news’.

In 2016, his Wednesday column was reinstated after an uproar from advertisers.

In February 2018, Michael was leaving the New York Post, as announced. This was after two decades as its theater columnist to work at radio station 710 WOR. In his new workplace, Riedel is the co-host of a morning talk show alongside Len Berman.

Michael is no longer covering Broadway full time. However, he gave his word that theater will be one of the features of the general news talk show. Word on the street has it, that with him discussing theater on the talk show, there will be a difference in tone from the one present in his columns at the Post.
