In 1996, Kaplinsky began presenting for Granada Talk TV on F2F, a youth chat show, with co-host Sacha Baron Cohen. She then switched to Meridian to show early morning news bulletins. She co-presented their evening news program Meridian Tonight in six months ‘ time. Kaplinsky moved to ITV’s London News Network in 1999, where she anchored London Today and London Tonight, as well as Seven Days, a political show.

She went on to join ITV News as a host after she left Channel 5.
