Paula White, born Paula Michelle White-Cain is an American pastor, author, and televangelist. She served as the senior pastor of New Destiny Christian Center, in Apopka, Florida, a non-denominational, multicultural megachurch.

She was formerly the co-pastor of Tampa, Florida’s Without Walls International Church, a church, she co-founded in 1991 with Pastor and then-husband Randy White. In Donald Trump’s administration, White became chair of the evangelical advisory board. At his inauguration on January 20, 2017, she gave the invocation.

She was the first member of the female clergy to deliver the invocation. In the July 2017 issue of Orlando Magazine, she was identified as number three on the ’50 Most Influential 2017: Philanthropy & Community Voices’ list. Trump named her special assistant at the Office of Public Liaison in November 2019 for the Faith and Opportunity Initiative.

She is the daughter of Myra Joanelle and Donald Paul Furr III. Her parents owned a crafts and toy shop. When White was five years old, Donald and Myra Furr’s marriage started to fail. White’s mother left Tupelo and took her to Memphis; White, her brother, and her mother were forced into poverty by her separation from her husband and his subsequent suicide. Mother White became an addict.

Her daughter was looked after by caregivers as she worked. White has said that she was sexually and physically assaulted between the ages of six and thirteen by various individuals on different occasions. She said that she suffered from bulimia during that period. When White was nine years old, White’s mother remarried to a two-star admiral in the United States Navy. She moved her family to Washington, D.C. Area at the National Naval Medical Center where her stepfather was stationed. In Germantown, Maryland, White graduated from Seneca Valley High School.

White has been married three times. Her first marriage was as a teenager. The year after converting to Christianity, Paula became pregnant. She together with Dean Knight, a local musician, was married in 1985 and divorced in 1989.  While attending Damascus Church of God in Maryland, which was led by his father, Paula met associate pastor Randy White in 1987. Meeting this third-generation preacher, according to the book Holy Mavericks, was a turning point in her life.

In 1989, the two separated their spouses and married each other a year later, making Paula his children’s step-mother. They moved to Tampa, Florida, shortly afterward, and began the International Church Without Walls. Randy White revealed on August 23, 2007, that he and Paula were divorcing. White says the divorce was amicable, according to The Christian Message, and they remain friends.

In 2010, after being photographed leaving a hotel in Rome holding hands, White’s relationship with married televangelist Benny Hinn gave rise to controversy. “A friendship formed,” Hinn said, but “the relationship is over.” Both denied an affair. At the close of 2014, Journey rock band guitarist Jonathan Cain finalized his divorce from his second wife and became engaged to White, who had dated him during his marriage. The couple married on April 27, 2015, and Paula became the step-mother of their twins.

White has one child, Bradley Knight from her first marriage, whom she appointed in 2019 as her senior church leader. She was the step-mother of her second husband’s three children, Randy White, and the step-mother of her third husband’s three children, Jonathan Cain.

The Christian Center of Tampa was founded in 1991 by Paula and Randy White in Tampa, Florida. In 1998, it became the International Church Without Walls. Between 1991 and 1998, the church financially suffered and moved locations three times. The church started to grow in 2002 by buying the defunct site of Carpenter’s Home Church in Lakeland, Florida.

A congregation of 20,000, the seventh-largest church in the United States, was announced in 2004 by Without Walls International Church. An analysis subsequently made public by a U.S. Senate committee found that $150 million was earned from 2004 to 2006 by Without Walls. The Senate study found that the church spent one-year spending tax-exempt ministry funds to pay about $900,000 for the pair’s waterfront mansion.
