Peter Thiel Biography

Peter Thiel born Peter Andreas Thiel is a German-American billionaire entrepreneur and venture capitalist. He is the co-founder of PayPal, Palantir Technologies, Founders Fund, and was the first investor in Facebook.

Klaus then worked for different mining firms, providing an itinerant education for Thiel and his younger brother, Patrick Michael Thiel. The mother of Thiel became a U.S. Citizen, but not his father.

In 1977, the Thiels lived in South Africa and southwest Africa (modern-day Namibia) before settling in Foster City, California. Seven times, Peter changed elementary schools. In Swakopmund, he attended a strict institution that forced students to wear uniforms and used corporal punishment, such as beating the hands of students with a ruler. This experience later expressed disdain for uniformity and regimentation in his advocacy of individualism and libertarianism. Thiel played Dungeons & Dragons with Isaac Asimov and Robert A and was an ardent reader of science fiction.

Heinlein, among his favorite authors, and a fan of J. R. R. Tolkien’s works, stating as an adult that he had read The Lord of the Rings over ten times] Six firms (Palantir Technologies, Valar Ventures, Mithril Capital, Lembas LLC, Rivendell LLC, and Arda Capital) that he founded adopted names originating from Tolkien.

Peter Thiel Education

Thiel excelled in mathematics and, while attending Bowditch Middle School in Foster City, scored first in a California-wide mathematics competition. He read Ayn Rand at San Mateo High School, respected then-President Ronald Reagan’s optimism and anti-communism, and was valedictorian of his graduating class in 1985. At Stanford University, he studied philosophy.

Debates on identity politics and political correctness were underway at that period. A “Western Culture” curriculum was replaced by a “Culture, Ideas and Values” course, which was criticized by The Rainbow Agenda because of a perceived over-representation of European men’s accomplishments, and also encouraged diversity and multiculturalism.

This replacement provoked on-campus controversy, and led to the founding of Thiel’s The Stanford Review, a conservative and libertarian newspaper, in 1987, with Irving Kristol’s funding. Thiel served as the first editor-in-chief of The Stanford Review and remained in that position until completing his Bachelor of Arts in 1989. Thiel enrolled at Stanford Law School and graduated with a doctorate in law in 1992.

Peter Thiel House

He sold his in San Francisco’s Marina District house which he had listed for $9.25 million. It has some pretty extravagant features, including both the Golden Gate Bridge and the Palace of Fine Arts with a penthouse lounge, elevator, and panoramic views.

He later purchased a contemporary L.A. Cottage. For the comparatively modest hideaway, which is located just a convenient, fast skip above the perennially trendy Sunset Strip and sports over-the-treetops city lights, he charged a cool million under the $6 million list price. More notably, however, the volume of the sale is also a very eyebrow-raising 32 percent lower than the property’s $7.4 million just four years earlier.

Peter Thiel Paypal

With Confinity, Thiel realized they could develop software to bridge a gap in making online payments. Although the use of credit cards and expanding automated teller machine networks provided consumers with more payment options, not all merchants had the necessary hardware to accept credit cards. Thus, consumers had to pay with exact cash or check. Thiel wanted to create a type of digital wallet for consumer convenience and security by encrypting data on digital devices, and in 1999 Confinity launched PayPal.

PayPal vowed to open up new money handling possibilities. Thiel saw the task of PayPal as freeing individuals from the loss of the value of their currencies due to inflation.

Peter Thiel Elon Musk

Elon Musk was labeled a “bad role model” by Facebook board member and president Donald Trump supporter Peter Thiel because his numerous inventions make it impossible to imitate him.

Thiel, who called himself a “true friend” of the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, made the remark at UCLA’s Internet50 event Tuesday during a debate on stage. Thiel addressed the issue, “Has real innovation stalled?” with Robert Metcalfe, a professor of innovation and entrepreneurship at the University of Texas at Austin. In the positive, Thiel claimed, while Metcalfe took the other hand.

Thiel said it could be simpler to recommend that a young person “launch a computer, internet business from your dorm room at college,” which may be an allusion to the origin story of Facebook. Thiel and Musk go back a long way: Thiel is PayPal’s co-founder, who later merged with Musk’s financial services business.
