Sarkodie is a Tema-based Ghanaian rapper, songwriter, and entrepreneur who has received numerous awards for his contributions to Ghana’s music industry, including the Vodafone Ghana Music Award for “Artiste of the Decade.” At the 2019 BET Hip Hop Awards, he was named the first recipient of the BET award for Best International Flow artist. Additionally, he is regarded as one of the most influential promoters of the Azonto dance and genre, as well as one of the most successful African rappers ever.

Sarkodie was born on July 10, 1988, the fourth of five children. Before his parents moved to Tema, where he began his education, he was raised in Koforidua. After graduating from Tema Methodist Day Senior High School, he went on to IPMC to pursue a degree in graphic design. Sarkodie began his career as a musician as an underground rapper, competing in the well-known rap competition Kasahare Level hosted by Adom FM. During the aforementioned competition, he met Duncan Williams, his former manager at Duncwills Entertainment. Additionally, he was introduced to Hammer of The Last Two, an established record producer, by musicians Edem and Castro. Hammer gave Sarkodie permission to record two tracks for Edem’s debut album Volta Regime because he was impressed by his rap flows.

In 2009, Kwaw Kese, J-Town, Sway, and Paedae of R2Bees made guest appearances on Sarkodie’s debut album, Makye. A concert in Accra’s Holy City Gardens served as support for it.
