Sydney Cariel is an American sports anchor and reporter currently working as the weekend sports anchor and reporter for ABC12 in Flint, MI. Previously, she worked as the sports reporter at KWES NewsWest 9 the NBC affiliate in Midland/Odessa, TX.

Sydney came to the ABC12 sports team in December of 2019 working as the weekend sports anchor and reporter. She is proud to be here in Mid-Michigan and cover all the action in the community.
Sydney was raised up in the Bay Area in Northern California right in the middle of the three big cities San Francisco, Oakland, and San Jose. Prior to joining the ABC12 team, Sydney served in Odessa, TX home of the movie Friday Night Lights. While there she served as one of the sports reporters then moved up to sports director. Sydney covered the rich tradition and excitement of Texas high school football taking a trip down to AT&T Stadium home of the Dallas Cowboys for the state championship.
Sydney graduated from Arizona State University with a bachelor’s degree in Sports Journalism from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. While in college, Sydney covered the Milwaukee Brewers during Spring Training for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and won an Emmy Award for one of her stories during that time. She also interned at Comcast SportsNet Bay Area for two summers covering all the Bay Area teams and worked for Cox Media as their high school football sideline reporter.
Growing up as a die-hard San Francisco 49ers, San Jose Sharks, and Oakland A’s fan, Syd has had a love for sports since she was young. Her love for sports grew into a love for sports journalism and her goal as a sports reporter is to tell the community stories that go further than the final scores of the games. She is experienced with studio production fundamentals including camera work, graphics, floor director, technical director, audio, teleprompter, AVID, Premiere Pro, Edius, ENPS, and news.
