Tammy K. Bruce is a prominent American political commentator, author, and conservative radio host. Prior to her current career, Bruce served as the president of the Los Angeles chapter of the National Organization for Women. Currently, she is a popular on-air contributor to Fox News and hosts the show Get Tammy Bruce on Fox Nation.

Bruce was in a relationship with the actress Brenda Benet at the age of 19. She was the personal assistant of Benet.
Following Benet’s second divorce in 1980, Tammy and Days of Our Lives actor Brenda Benet began dating. In early 1982, they split up and Brenda committed suicide a few weeks later.
Bruce claimed in a 2006 interview with C-SPAN that she was technically bisexual and that it was a preference for her to identify as a lesbian.

Tammy discovered Benet locked in her bathroom at her Mandeville Canyon home on April 7, 1982. She then called the police who found Benet dead by shooting herself with a pistol, she had apparently committed suicide.
The tragic incident forced Tammy, then 19, into the limelight. She then got involved as an openly gay woman in the feminist movement. Tammy claimed in a 2006 interview with C-SPAN that she was legally bisexual and, by preference, identified as a lesbian.

During her early life, Tammy was an ardent Liberal, but she began to adopt conservative values as time went on. As an openly gay Republican, she argued that same-sex couples were not universally accepting of same-sex marriage and should be able to marry only heterosexual couples.
Bruce later clarified that different entities were her sexuality and political beliefs. She also claimed that among the Conservatives, she found greater acceptance as a gay person than among liberals. Bruce wrote in an article for The Guardian, writing:
“So, when it comes to my level of comfort as a conservative who happens to be gay, here’s what I know: while many conservatives are people of faith and their religion supports a very different point of view on homosexuality (and a few other things!) than mine, I’ve found conservatives to be more compassionate, more curious, and more understanding of others who are different from them than I ever did when I was there.”
