Laura Gayle Coates is an American lawyer, author, law professor, & TV commentator on CNN. She hosts a talk radio show called The Laura Coates Show on SiriusXM’s Urban View since 2017. Coates, attended the Princeton School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University, in Princeton, New Jersey. In 2005 she received her J.D from the University of Minnesota Law School, in Minneapolis.
Coates served as an Assistant U.S as A former federal prosecutor. Attorney for the District of Columbia and as a trial attorney in the Justice Department’s Civil Rights Division, focusing on voting rights enforcement across the country.
Gayle is an American actress, legal analyst for CNN, and host of two documentaries on Oxygen Network. From May 2016 to this day she has been one of the most experienced analysts in her field. The first, The Disappearance of the Millbrook Twins, follows Coates as she investigates the disappearance of 15-year-old twins in Augusta, Georgia.
She has also hosted the documentary, Murder, and Justice: The Case of Martha Moxley, which investigates the death of 15-year-old Martha Moxley.
Coates has written and published features and research for major publications, such as The Washington Post and the Boston Herald.
Her first book, published in January 2016, was a legal guide entitled, You Have the Right: A Constitutional Guide to Policing the Police. Coates’ second upcoming book, Just Pursuit: A Black Prosecutor’s Fight for Fairness is slated to be released at some point in the future.
She is an adjunct professor of law at the George Washington University School of Law. She specializes in civil rights, social justice, economic empowerment, and other topics.
