Morgan Wallen Biography

Hold on to your cowboy hats, folks! We’ve got Morgan Wallen, the all-American country music sensation, in the house! This Tennessee-born troubadour signed with Big, Loud Records and hit the charts with his single “The Way I Talk.”

But Morgan’s roots go way back to his childhood, when his dad was a preacher man. This future country star spent his early years tickling the ivories and plucking the strings of his trusty violin.

Morgan Cole Wallen is a country music superstar who has been breaking records left and right! He got his start on The Voice, where he probably used his charm and good looks to win over Usher and Adam Levine. After getting eliminated on the show, he signed with Panacea Records and released his first EP, Stand Alone. But it was when he signed with Big Loud that Wallen really hit it big, with his debut album If I Know Me reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart.

In 2021, Wallen released Dangerous: The Double Album, and it was so popular that it spent 10 weeks at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200. That’s longer than I’ve ever spent at the top of anything! The album had three No. 1 singles, including “More Than My Hometown” and “Wasted on You,” which sounds like my personal anthem.

But the real kicker is that Wallen’s third album, One Thing at a Time, has broken records by having all 36 tracks enter the Billboard Hot 100 at once. I can’t even imagine having that many hits! “Last Night” even hit No. 1, proving that Wallen’s music is more contagious than a yawn during a boring meeting.

Morgan Wallen Age

Well, well, well, it seems that Morgan Wallen, the country music sensation, was born on May 13, 1993, in Sneedville, Hancock County, Tennessee. That’s right, he’s 30 years old now, but don’t worry, he’s still got plenty of time to make us all feel musically inadequate.

Morgan Wallen was born into a family of musical talent, with his mom being a teacher and his dad a church pastor. But don’t let that fool you, Wallen was a wild child in his youth. He played baseball in high school until a pesky injury sidelined him. To cope with the loss of his sports dreams, he turned to music and learned to play the guitar. He was influenced by all sorts of music, from classic rock to Lil Wayne, but he found his true passion in country music. Wallen has since become one of the most successful country music artists, proving that even when life throws you a curveball, you can still hit a home run.

Morgan Wallen Early Life and Career

In 2014, Wallen thought he could become the next big star on The Voice, so he showed up with his best rendition of “Collide” by Howie Day. Shakira and Usher were impressed, but eventually, Wallen joined Adam Levine’s team after his second round and was eliminated in the playoffs. He was down but not out: “I may not have won The Voice, but at least I won’t have to wear a silly hat like Pharrell.” The show helped Wallen make connections in the music industry.

While in California, Wallen started working with Sergio Sanchez of Atom Smash. When Wallen moved to Nashville, he and Sanchez formed a temporary band called Morgan Wallen & Them Shadows. They got lucky when Bill Ray and Paul Trust of Panacea Records signed Wallen to their label in 2015. His debut EP Stand Alone was released on August 24, 2015, and featured “Spin You Around”, which later went gold.

Wallen’s manager, Dirk Hemsath, saw potential in him and sent his demo to Seth England of Big Loud Shirt. After Wallen auditioned for England and his partners, they signed him to both their label and publishing company. They started pairing his songs with other artists, and soon Wallen’s debut single “The Way I Talk” was released. Wallen also co-wrote a few songs for other artists, including Jason Aldean’s “You Make It Easy”. He even went on tour with Florida, Georgia Line, and they collaborated on the single “Up Down”, which was a massive hit. Wallen felt like a star in the making: “I’m living the dream! Except for the early mornings, the late nights, and the constant pressure to be perfect.”

Morgan Wallen The Voice

Wallen auditioned for The Voice with Howie Day’s “Collide” impressing Shakira and Usher. Morgan chose Usher after he called, his voice “unique” and offered constructive criticism. In the first Battle Rounds, Morgan was paired against Brothers Walker to sing Avicii’s “Hey Brother”. Usher told him he had an incredible voice, and chose him to advance to the second Battle Rounds.

Morgan had big dreams of playing professional baseball. He headed in that direction until he suffered a serious elbow. He led him to pursue his other passion, singing, and he’s on The Voice to inspire others to never give up.

Morgan Wallen Intoxication

In May 2020, Wallen had a little too much fun at Kid Rock’s bar in downtown Nashville and got arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct. He was so embarrassed by his antics that he had to apologize on social media and promise to stick to water from then on.

Morgan And Racial Slurr

Well, well, well, looks like Morgan Wallen had a bit of a slip-up. On February 2, 2021, TMZ released a video of Wallen dropping a racial slur with his buddies as they were entering his Nashville home. Oopsie daisy! Wallen issued a statement apologizing for his behavior and the consequences started rolling in like a runaway train.
SiriusXM Satellite Radio, iHeartRadio, Entercom (now Audacy, Inc.), Cumulus, and Townsquare temporarily removed Wallen’s music from airplay on their stations. Even Apple Music, Pandora, and Spotify removed his music and promotional photographs from their featured playlists. However, Spotify later re-added Wallen’s music back to their playlists one week later.
CMT and the Country Music Association removed Wallen’s appearances from their platforms, and his record label Big Loud (and partner Republic Records) suspended its recording contract with him indefinitely. The Academy of Country Music also announced that Wallen and his latest album Dangerous: The Double Album would be ineligible for the 56th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards. Oh, and did I mention that Jason Isbell, the original singer of “Cover Me Up,” announced that he would be donating all of the royalties from Wallen’s cover to the NAACP? It’s safe to say that Wallen had a bit of a rough patch, but despite the controversy and ensuing backlash, his album sales surged after the incident, eventually becoming 2021’s best-selling album. I guess some people just love a good train wreck.
