McCoy began his career in journalism at London’s Fleet Street News Agency before joining Thames TV in 1983 as a reporter for Thames News. He joined the breakfast TV station TV-am as a news editor after a time as a scriptwriter on Thames TV in 1986. In 1988, McCoy left for new Sky satellite channel – initially as a producer on Sunrise’s Sky News breakfast programme.
He was appointed Royal Correspondent after a year as the station ‘s general reporter, and between 1991 and 1996 McCoy covered major stories that involved the Royal Family.
Simon took up a desk position after a career that included traveling around the world over the years, reporting Sunrise on Sky News. He also hosted the Tonight program – a topical talk show that featured interviews with people from the showbiz, political and sport worlds.
