Born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana, United States, as Carlos Alan Autry Jr., Alan Autry is an American actor, politician, and former National Football League player. Carlos Brown is another name by which he was known for a while.

He went under the name of Carlos Brown for the duration of his brief football career. On the television show In the Heat of the Night, which aired on NBC (and then CBS) and starred Carroll O’Connor, Autry played the part of Captain Bubba Skinner.
