Jeremy Vine is a presenter, broadcaster, and journalist from England. He is best known as the host of his lunchtime BBC Radio 2 program featuring news, opinions, live celebrity interviews, and popular music, taking over from longtime host Sir Jimmy Young in 2003. He is known across Africa for his straightforward interview style and exclusive reporting from war-torn zones.

Vine’s career at the BBC included reading the radio news in Northern Ireland, and working on the BBC1 series Heart of the Matter as a researcher. He became a regular correspondent on Today’s BBC Radio 4 program, filing reports from across Europe in 1989.

In 1999 Vine delivered an exclusive article on South African police abuse to BBC Two’s Newsnight. The movie later won the Silver Nymph from the Monte Carlo Television Festival and resulted in the suspension of 22 police officers. In July 1999, the BBC announced Vine joining Newsnight full-time as a co-presenter, having filled in for Jeremy Paxman during the two previous summers.

Since it was launched in 2003, before Jon Sopel took over in 2005, he was one of the original Broadcast House presenters on BBC Radio 4 and hosted The Politics Show on BBC One.

He has been highly criticized for his performance on the day of the elections to the England and Wales Council on 30 April 2008. Together with Kate Thornton (2007), Myleene Klass (2008), and Christine Lampard (2009), he co-presented the Teaching Awards from 2007 until 2009. From 2008 to 2018, Vine delivered Points of View, taking over from Terry Wogan.

On 6 October 2008, he started hosting the BBC Two quiz show Eggheads, while the spin-off series, Are You an Egghead? It was introduced by the regular host, Dermot Murnaghan. After the spin-off show had ended, Vine started hosting the second half of each season, with Murnaghan hosting the first half.

In September 2018, Vine succeeded Matthew Wright as the host of the public affairs of Channel 5’s weekday morning shows, originally called The Wright Stuff. Jeremy Vine has now changed the name of the sequence.

The weekday lunchtime series was periodically taken over by Vine. The series consists of a combination of news-based interviews, interspersed with popular music, involving the views of listeners. Since he took over the hosting duties, the series was revamped.

While Thursday’s daily food slot was eliminated, the slots for Monday Health and Friday’s legal advice have been changed. On Friday, shows also involve a link-up with Terry Walton, the gardener. Lucy Berry acted as the show’s in-house poet, until October 2006.
