The Russian Alligator-class landing ship, Orsk, has been destroyed by the Ukrainian military at the port of Berdyansk, near the city of Mariupol

A large gray vessel which the Ukrainian navy says was struck, billows plumes of black smoke next to big cranes as it breathes its last breath.

A rocket attack on The Orsk was reported to have destroyed the Russian landing ship on March 24, 2022. The video footage showed one of the rockets engulfing the front-end of the ship in a fireball.

The Ukrainian Navy said that the Russian Alligator-class landing ship, Orsk, was destroyed at the port in the Azov Sea near the city of Mariupol.

The Russian Alligator-class landing ship is a class of amphibious assault ship. It is designed to transport and land troops, tanks, and other heavy equipment on the shore.

The Alligator-class ships are designed to carry up to 300-425 marines, 20 tanks, and 40 armored personnel carriers and 55 crew.

The Orsk (BDK-69) was commissioned in 1968, as Nikolay Obekov – before it was transferred to Berdiansk. Before its docking at the port of Berdiansk, the ship done a total of 11 campaigns in Mediterranean, Indian and Atlantic oceans. The report has not yet been confirmed and Russia’s Defense Ministry has not responded to the claim that the Orsk had been destroyed.

The Pentagon reported that Russia has lost 10% of its combat capability since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, and that Ukrainian forces are going on counter-offensive.
